#8 Clubhouse Provisions - Litchfield
Three years ago, new owners took over the Stonybrook golf course which is just a few miles up the street from us in Litchfield. We had heard that the restaurant was quite good so when my sister Susan visited with us for the July 4th weekend, we decided to go there for lunch. It was a beautiful, sunny, but hot afternoon so we ate inside rather than on the deck which offers a great view of the course and countryside. Given it is a 9 hole public course, we were pleased to find a casual, yet upscale dining room and a menu with a number of interesting options. The chef is a fan of Asian infused food so there are a number of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean dishes.
As a shared appetizer, I selected pork belly bites as this is not something you usually see on a menu in New England. It was crispy bites of pork belly in a soy, sesame peanut sauce, which were quite tasty, but also quite heavy- probably better suited for the winter. For our main courses, Sunny had the summer salad with sliced roasted chicken, Susan had the shrimp tacos with onion rings, and I had the pastrami Rueben with French fries ( something I like but rarely see on menus). Everything was delicious, the servings good sized, and the fries and onion rings were nice and crispy. Sunny, who is a salad aficionado, said it was perhaps the best salad she ever had. Susan ‘s tacos had plenty of tasty seared shrimp and my Reuben had just the right amount of pastrami, sauerkraut, cheese and dressing.
We think we have found a new favorite - 2 miles up the street, easy parking, lovely setting, excellent food and great service. You should give it try yourself.
Interesting fact: the new owners Jonathan and Jill, are the perfect couple to own a golf course. Jonathan went to culinary school and runs the restaurant while Jill is a class A golf pro who runs the golf course. Her father owned the golf course from 1976 until they took it over in 2022, and the couple and their 2 children live in the house next door, which is where Jill grew up.
SOUNDS LIKE A GREAT ADVENTURE--I CANT WAIT TOM GO TO ITALY WITH YOU
